WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. -- Authorities have two suspects in custody in connection to a hit-and-run incident and pursuit with a stolen vehicle in Williamson County on Wednesday.

The Williamson County Sheriff's Office said their deputies responded to the hit-and-run incident near the area of Route 148 and Grassy Road at 7:37 a.m. on August 28. This was reportedly in a construction zone.

The sheriff's office said they were provided a description of the vehicle, along with the driver who was said to have been wearing a ski mask.

Authorities later learned the vehicle was reportedly stolen from the Mound City area.

The suspected vehicle was seen driving north on Route 148 and Route 13 with significant front-end damage.

Deputies found the vehicle and tried to pull it over, however, the vehicle reportedly continued on and later hit a stationary vehicle at Stotlar Road and South 13th Street in Herrin. At this time, the suspects reportedly got out of the vehicle and ran away.

The Herrin Hospital and nearby schools went into a lock down mode.

Two juvenile suspects were reportedly taken into custody after a foot pursuit into some neighborhoods.

The sheriff's office said these suspects have an extensive history with law enforcement.

The Williamson County Sheriff's Office was assisted by police officers from Herrin, Carterville and Energy.

Authorities said there is no further threat to the public.
