JACKSON COUNTY Ill., (WSIL) -- The Jackson County Warrant Amnesty Initiative is set to allow people with outstanding traffic warrants an opportunity to resolve their cases without fear of arrest and without the expense of cash bond.
Jackson County States Attorney Joe Cervantez said while it is important for the county to keep justice and public safety it is just as important to remain compassionate and allows members of the community to have a path back to becoming legal.
"A lot of individuals in our community can kind of get caught up in this cycle of suspended driver's licenses, revolted driver's licenses, fines for speeding tickets, and other traffic-related matters," said Cervantez.
A defendant may appear before the court by Zoom on February 11 and March 11 to ask the court to quash the outstanding warrant.
The Court will quash the warrant and set the case for a future court date without the necessity of a cash bond or other fees.
"Even though there is a pandemic, and it may be hard to travel or that the courthouse has limited hours, they can easily get to a computer or a phone and zoom in," said the Jackson County States Attorney.
Cervantez said all traffic warrants are eligible to be quashed, warrants for $5,000 or less will be quashed, removed from the system and new court dates will be sent out.
