WILLIAMSON CO. (WSIL) -- The Williamson County Sheriff's Office is encouraging residents to download its new app.
The office started looking into the possibility of an app last year after learning about a Florida department using it.
The app will allow users to send in tips, check on jail inmates, document property in case of a theft, and get the word out about missing persons.
The sheriff's office is also going to add crime maps to help keep people informed about their area.
The office says it's a great way to reach out to the public and won't put your privacy at risk.
"This in no way tracks anyone, gives us their data in any way, shape or form. That's one thing through my research I wanted to make sure that nobody can be tracked. Nobody's data was collected in any way, shape or form," explained Chief Deputy Scott McCabe.
The app won't cost anything to taxpayers. The Williamson County Sheriff's Office is looking to sell sponsorships to fund the service.
The app is called Williamson County Sheriff - IL and is available on the Apple app store and Google Play.
