DU QUOIN (WSIL) -- The City of DuQuoin says its pool will be open this summer but with limited use.
The city's pool manager says the pool has been up and running for several weeks, and soon, some folks will be allowed back in the water.
Pool use will be limited to activities such as swim team practices, swim lessons, and therapy sessions.
The city says the decision to keep the pool open for limited use was based on state guidelines, and they will adjust their operation accordingly.
"Because we thought it would be better for the pumps to run and the pool to be cleaned and everything. So it was our intent to open the pool regardless of if it was open to the public or not, but you know, we have a small opportunity here to where maybe we can have half of a season, not a full season," explained Du Quoin Mayor Guy Alongi.
"That's why we decided to keep the pool open. We didn't decide a month ago, 'Hey, we're closing for the summer.' We decided to keep it up and running and wait and see what happens," said pool manager Nicole Heape.
All who enter the pool premises will have their temperature checked, and bathrooms will be sanitized after each use.
The city hopes to resume general swim hours when the next phase of guidelines come down from the state.
