HARRISBURG, Ill. (WSIL) -- Harrisburg Junior High is now asbestos free.

Mayor John McPeek said workers finished the four-month removal process last Friday. Now, that the building is asbestos-free the city can move to the next phase which is tearing the vacant building down.

"It's been a long process to get the junior high torn down and it's a shame that we do have to tear down but it's in really bad shape," said McPeek.

The City of Harrisburg plans to sell the land, currently, McPeek said they do not have any firm offers.
