...HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT /8 PM EDT/
FRIDAY...

* WHAT...Daily heat index values of 100 to 107.

* WHERE...Portions of southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, western
Kentucky, and southeast Missouri.

* WHEN...Until 7 PM CDT /8 PM EDT/ Friday.

* IMPACTS...Prolonged exposure to hot temperatures and high humidity
may cause heat illnesses.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The first prolonged stretch of heat and
humidity of the season will amplify health impacts. Health impacts
will build with each successive day in the heat and humidity.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke.

Marion police announces 2nd Annual Badges and Backpacks event; donations welcome

MARION, Ill. (WSIL) -- The Marion Police Department is gearing up for the Second Annual Badges and Backpacks event, a back-to-school initiative aimed at supporting local students in need.

The event will provide essential school supplies to help students kick off the new school year. Applications for assistance are now available and can be picked up at the Marion Police Department.

Completed applications must be submitted to the department by 4 p.m. on July 25. To qualify, applicants must be students enrolled in Marion Unit 2.

The police department is also seeking community donors to contribute to the event's success. Those interested in donating or with questions can reach out to Detective Summar Albright at 618-993-2124 ext. 1205.

The community is encouraged to come together to ensure a strong start for local students this school year.
