...HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT /8 PM EDT/
FRIDAY...

* WHAT...Peak daily heat index values up to around 105 degrees.

* WHERE...All of southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, western
Kentucky, and southeast Missouri.

* WHEN...Until 7 PM CDT /8 PM EDT/ Friday.

* IMPACTS...Prolonged hot temperatures and high humidity may cause
heat illnesses.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke.

Mount Vernon Educator Named 2024 Southern Regional Teacher of the Year for Illinois

MOUNT VERNON, Ill. -- A school is celebrating after one of their educators was named teacher of the year for southern Illinois.

Bethel Grade School District #82 proudly announced their 1st grade teacher, Mrs. Beth Matthews as she was named the 2024 Southern Regional Teacher of the Year in Illinois.

Matthews represents the southern 40 counties in Illinois as the teacher of the year and will also be a candidate for Illinois Teacher of the Year to be announced in April.

Matthews was surprised with the news in Zoom call delivered by the State Superintendent Dr. Tony Sanders.

Bethel Grade School celebrated Matthew's accomplishment on Tuesday.
