HARRISBURG (WSIL)---Harrisburg Family Medicine, a Ferrell Hospital Clinic, is opening to patients on Monday.
And community members throughout Harrisburg expressed their excitement for what the clinic will do for residents.
"I wanna say how proud we are to have Ferrell Hospital as a part of the Saline County community. They have been here for several decades and we just appreciate the wonderful quality care that they provide to patients in south eastern Illinois, and of course, now with their new addition, here in Harrisburg," Harrisburg's Director of Community Development, Alex Watkins.
The new clinic celebrated their opening with a ribbon cutting and will begin providing primary care to people of all ages, Monday through Friday.
"I think that the more primary care services that are offered, the more choices that people have, and we want to make it convenient. Convenient to where they work, where they live, so absolutely, hopefully this will help meet the healthcare needs of this community," said Ferrell Hospital CEO Alisa Coleman.
Coleman said she hopes the new clinic will help relieve pressure off hospitals in the area, as hospitals are still overwhelmed by COVID and staffing shortages.
For now, Coleman is excited to bring new patients to the clinic.
She said Monday is already almost completely full with appointments.
"The people of Harrisburg are so very welcoming. Southern Illinois is just a welcoming location, and the people certainly have that same attitude and culture. We certainly want to welcome everyone to the new location and if they need a new provider we will certainly welcome them here," said Coleman.
