SEDALIA, Ky. (WSIL) -- One person was injured after a vehicle crashed into a creek on Wednesday.

The Graves County Sheriff's Office said deputies were called out to the 7500-block of State Route 97 for a crash at around noon on November 13.

The sheriff's office said a 71-year-old man was driving on State Route 97 when he fell asleep and drove off the road, hit a tree and rolled over before landing in a deep creek.

The man was trapped inside the vehicle with the water level in the creek rising, due to the heavy rainfall, the sheriff's office said.

County officials said members with the Sedalia Volunteer Fire Department, along with the Mayfield/Graves County EMS, arrived on scene and were able to get to the trapped man in the creek and get him out of the vehicle.

The man was then taken to the Jackson County Purchase Medical Center Emergency Room for treatment of his injuries.

Assisting the Graves County Sheriff's Office was the Sedalia Volunteer Fire Department and the Mayfield/Graves County EMS.
