CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- News 3 WSIL is proud to join with the Southern Illinois Community Foundation to help local non-profits.
The African American Museum in Carbondale is a non-profit organization that strives to educate the community on African Amercian culture.
"We're not just a museum where you come in and look at the artifacts on the walls of what we have to show you. We have plenty of that but we are a community based organization," say Milton McDaniel, Cofounder of the museum.
McDaniel says they also do extensive community outreach to help those who need it. "We are a big supporter of the Illinois Special Olympics and we get involved with the community as a whole helping people out. We're not just a museum that sits here for people to come and watch and see what we have. We go out into the community to show them that we are a part of Southern Illinois."
McDaniel says the museum and outreach relys entirely on donations and volunteers. "We have history here and we want our youth to know they have people they can be proud of."
More than 70 organizations will benefit from Give-SI. Those groups serve veterans, the homeless, animals in need, and many other local causes. Click to find out more.
