HERRIN, IL (WSIL) -- The Austin Wade Foundation held its 10th Annual golf scramble Saturday, an event raising money for children battling cancer.
More than 150 golfers teed off at Pine Lakes in Herrin for the Give-Back Scramble, a fundraiser that honors the young life of Austin Wade who lost his battle with brain cancer in 2012. This year's event also honors 4-year-old Malcolm, who is currently fighting his own battle with cancer.
Foundation founder, Austin's mother, Denise Diercks says they will continue until cancer is cured.
"There's a lot more kids that battle this disease in southern Illinois than what people know," says Diercks. "Once they find a cure I think that-that would be the time that we don't have to do this anymore, until they find a cure for cancer we are just going to keep going time and time again and keep helping kids until we can't do it anymore."
The , but the golf outing is their biggest event. All proceeds go to raising awareness for kids with cancer and supporting their families. They offer their services throughout all of southern Illinois.
