CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL) -- The SIH Cancer Institute is expanding and the SIH Memorial Hospital of Carbondale is helping with a $150,000 donation.

SIH Cancer Institute serves cancer patients at all stages.

They have plans on how to address breast, lung, head and neck.

They're in the process of expanding their cancer institute.

"We've been open for six years, and we have seen an increase and double of what we have been seeing previously.  And so, there was a need for us to expand the cancer institute and to expand our services," said Jennifer Badiu, the system Director at SIH Cancer Institute.

The expansion is a $21 million project.

It will increase the facility's size by 40%.

The facility opened in March 2015 and is the region's first and only cancer treatment center.
