ULLIN, Ill. (WSIL) -- Most schools will return to in-person learning this fall.

And many students still need their back-to-school vaccines.

The Southern Seven Health Department reminds parents to schedule their child’s routine vaccination appointments early to avoid the last minute rush. Southern Seven reports immunizations have decreased at their clinics by nearly 12 percent since 2019.

Shawnna Rhine, Community Outreach Coordinator for S7HD says, "Vaccinations are needed in order to keep children healthy. We don't see a lot of the diseases circulating like we used to and that's because children have been vaccinated. But those diseases are still out there and we need to do everything we can to protect them."

It's important to keep your child's vaccinations up to date. It helps protect children from at least 15 serious diseases, including measles, mumps, and chicken pox. Children age 12 and older can also be vaccinated against COVID-19.
