(WSIL) -- In the midst of the global pandemic two major medical providers in southern Illinois could be joining forces.
According to a press release Southern Illinois Healthcare (SIH) and Harrisburg Medical Center (HMC) have signed a "Letter of Intent to formally consider the joining of the two organizations. "
The release goes on to say:
Both share a mission of providing the highest quality healthcare services to the communities they serve. The proposed affiliation would strengthen the existing relationship between both entities and better streamline the clinical, financial and technological needs of patients in southeastern Illinois.
What the joined organization could look like is unclear right now. Officials tell News 3 WSIL conversations about joining SIH and HMC started at the beginning of 2020.
