MT. VERNON, Ill. (WSIL) -- SSM Health is offering Student Nursing Externships and Graduate Nurse Residency Programs at its Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon and St. Mary's Hospital in Centralia.

The Student Nurse Externship Program provides hands-on clinical training for student nurses, allowing them to earn an hourly wage while gaining practical experience. The Graduate Nurse Residency program is a 12-month educational pathway that helps new nurse graduates develop skills and confidence, offering a sign-on bonus, competitive wages, and a benefits package.

“Our region here in Southern Illinois is rich with opportunity, especially within the health care industry. We have some of the best medical professionals and nurses right here in Centralia and Mt. Vernon. We are excited to leverage the talent and expertise of our team to train the next generation of nurses, said Danielle Thompson, RN, Administrative Director of Nursing Operations at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital.

SSM Health emphasizes that nursing is more than a career—it's a calling. Their mission and values are central to their Nursing Professional Practice Model, continuing a tradition of care established more than 150 years ago.
