SPRINGFIELD, Ill. The Illinois Senate will return to Springfield on June 15 to vote on the highly-anticipated clean energy proposal. Lawmakers, advocates, and stakeholders hoped to pass a plan before May 31, but negotiations came to a halt.

Senate Democrats officially announced their plan Tuesday and notified the Republican Caucus. Democrats say the bill negotiated by the Pritzker administration could help Illinois lead the nation on renewable energy.

“This is a landmark clean energy plan that both protects thousands of jobs and moves Illinois responsibly toward the future, said Senate President Don Harmon.

The Senate only expects to stay in Springfield one day. Lawmakers haven’t filed language for the new energy proposal at this time. Meanwhile, the House will return to action on Wednesday, June 16.

Speaker Emanuel “Chris Welch says top priorities include the energy legislation, unemployment insurance, and proposed elected school board for Chicago.

“We were able to accomplish big things this legislative session, and I’m eager to keep that spirit alive in a quick special session next week, Welch said.
