MURPHYSBORO, Ill. (WSIL) -- State police are investigating an officer-involved deadly incident in Murphysboro on Tuesday.

The Illinois State Police Division (ISP) of Criminal Investigations Zone 7 are investigating the officer-involved death after a request by the Murphysboro Police Department.

ISP said at 1:30 a.m., on February 4, a Murphysboro police officer tried to pull over a vehicle which earlier fled from other police agencies. State police said the vehicle didn't stop and police lost sight of the suspected vehicle. However, ISP said the vehicle later crashed near 14th Street and Spruce Street in Murphysboro.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, ISP stated. The passenger was reported to have life-threatening injuries and was taken to an area hospital.

Illinois State Police are the lead agency investigating the incident.聽
