HERRIN, Ill. (WSIL) The Herrin Fire Department responded to a call of a yard fire around 1:40 p.m.

Five pets were rescued by Herrin fire crews, including three dogs, one bird, and one bearded dragon.

Upon arrival, fire crews say the fire had spread from the yard to the attic.

While crews extinguished the fire, another crew searched the home for residents.

No one was in the home, however, crews did rescue five pets.

Three dogs, one bird, and a bearded dragon were removed from the residence.

The cause of that fire remains unknown at this time.
