Flaring Operations to be Conducted in Mt. Vernon

MOUNT VERNON, Ill. -- County officials are alerting the public about some flaring operations taking place on Tuesday.

The Mount Vernon Police Department stated Ameren is conducting some flaring operations on Tuesday, August 20. This will be at the intersection of I-57 and IL - 15 in Mt. Vernon.

Police said Ameren has installed roughly 2,300 feet of six inch pipe which is in regards to a future project with the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Ameren will be pickling the line throughout the week. This will help ensure the proper amount of odorant for the gas line, authorities explained.

The flaring may be a visible flame to motorists and pedestrians, however, this is reported as part of the controlled process. Police ensure there will be no threat to any life or property.

The main time frame for the flaring operations will start in the afternoon hours on August 20, for about four to six hours; however, there may be additional flaring operations in the next few days as well.
