Herrin community to honor fallen soldiers at Doughboy Memorial Day event

HERRIN, Ill. (WSIL) -- The Herrin community will gather for a solemn Memorial Service on May 26 at the World War I Doughboy Memorial. The event is scheduled to take place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 317 North Park Avenue.

The service is also in conjunction with the HerrinFesta Italiana. The community is invited to honor the true meaning of Memorial Day. The Herrin VFW and Herrin American Legion are organizers of the event, which will pay tribute to those who gave their lives in service to our country.

The community will gather together for remembrance, gratitude, and reflection and attendees will honor the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

The event highlights the importance of remembering and honoring those who have served. It served as a reminder of the sacrifices made by many for the prosperity and safety of the nation.
