MURPHYSBORO, Ill. (WSIL) -- The Jackson County Sheriff's Office and Jackson County Emergency Management Agency have completed their initial Disaster Impact Assessment after the winter storm hit their area on January 5, causing widespread damage.

County officials said stakeholders in Jackson County have been working through the county highway department and local townships to clean up and dispose of the tree and vegetation debris along roads throughout the county which were impacted by the winter storm.

Emergency services in Jackson County stated they received three inches of sleet, 1/2 inch of ice and up to two inches of snow during the winter storm.

County officials have submitted their disaster impact assessment to the Illinois Emergency Management Agency, however, local emergency officials say the county will be well below the threshold for State and Federal assistance.
