CARTERVILLE, Ill. (WSIL) -- A Juneteenth celebration is scheduled to take place at John A. Logan College on Wednesday from 3 p.m. - 7 p.m.
The event is taking place in the Waterfall Courtyard, with a theme of 160 Years in Peace - Changing Forward Together.
The community is invited to join in on the celebration. Organizers say it will honor freedom, unity and progress forward. The event will feature guest speakers with live music by The J Sound, a performance by Matt Wilson, along with food vendors which include BBQ & Cajun Cuisine and Honeybeez Snowballz.
Opening remarks Carbondale Mayor Carolin Harvey at 3 p.m., Former Congressman Dr. Glenn Poshard and JALC President Dr. Kirk Overstreet.
Food and hygiene items are also welcome and will be donated to the Carterville United Pantry. Guests are also asked to bring lawn chairs or blankets for the event.
In case of rain, the event will be held inside the conference center or cafeteria.
