PULASKI COUNTY, Ill. (WSIL)-- Despite the heat warnings, some people decided they wouldn't let that stop them from having fun.
They headed out to the Pulaski County Fair for some cool events including a livestock show.Â
Langston Stafford was sitting in the shade after winning a lot of awards on Wednesday, including first place for her calf at the Pulaski County Fair.
“I got Grand Champion with my heifer, just for that class though, and then with my steers, I got second and third, Stafford said.
Besides drinking water she says they have fans to make sure she and her animals stay cool.
“We set up two fans, especially for the cows, Stafford said.
After the show, Stafford and other competitors took their animals back home. But for other fair-goers, getting a cool drink is the way to go.
As people were getting tired of the sun, the fair had the Cook Shack where people could get food.
Layla Helman is volunteering in the shack at the fair this year. She says they have air conditioning for the people in the kitchen.
“We’re like stacked on bottled water, and that's what we had a lot of people getting, Helman said.
She says besides people ordering cold drinks, their chili is popular too.
“People are just trying to do their best, getting fans, water and helping everyone stay hydrated, Helman said.
And Pulaski County Fair officials say they have safety precautions for people to stay cool.
Bryan Curry is the vice president of the county fair’s committee.
“We have an air conditioned office that's available if needed. And we have water at the Cook Shack and the hot dog stand. And there will also be an ambulance on the grounds if needed, Curry said.
Helman says while she hopes to stay cool, she wants to also enjoy the fair.
“Hanging out with my friends, catching up, and talking about what we're looking forward to when school starts, Helman said.
The Pulaski County Fair will have events until Saturday, August 3rd.
