CARBONDALE, Ill. -- First responders and the community will gather at Southern Illinois University Carbondale on September 11, to commemorate 9/11 and the Global War on Terror.
The 9/11 Tribute will take place on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at the Banterra Center Basketball Arena. Participation arrival time is 5:45 a.m. with the event to start at 6 a.m.
The event is hosted by the Air Force ROTC Detachment 205 and Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
Air Force and Army cadets, along with the public, attend this event every year to honor those who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks and the .
Those who attend the event will be challenged to climb 110 flights of stairs which represent the 110 floors in each of the World Trade Center buildings. Additionally, those who attend will have the option to walk two miles around the Banterra Center concourse which will represent the evacuation distance from Ground Zero to the Brooklyn Bridge.
