MARION (WSIL) -- The warmer temperatures have many of us venturing outside, some in search of mushrooms.

Morel Mushroom Hunting season is upon us and many folks have already had some luck. But Health Departments want to remind you, we aren't the only ones enjoying the outdoors. When heading back inside you'll want to be sure to check for tiny hitch hikers, ticks.

"The two most common tick related illnesses are Lime Disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and they have very similar symptoms. For example you could have a fever or a rash," explains Carrie Eldridge, Director of Health Education at the Franklin - Williamson Bi-County Health Department.

Eldridge says if you notice symptoms after being bitten promptly contact your healthcare provider but there are precautions you can take when enjoying the outdoors.

Avoid tall grass, wear bug repellent, treat clothing with permethrin, tuck your socks into your boots and shower when returning indoors. For more safety tips click and for common Illinois ticks click .
