...HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT /8 PM EDT/
FRIDAY...

* WHAT...Daily heat index values up to 106.

* WHERE...All of southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, western
Kentucky, and southeast Missouri.

* WHEN...Until 7 PM CDT /8 PM EDT/ Friday.

* IMPACTS...Prolonged exposure to hot temperatures and high humidity
may cause heat illnesses.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke.

WSIL(Carterville, IL)-- This morning, a lot of us are waking up to temperatures that are 9 to 10 degrees cooler than where we were 24 hours ago. Temperatures are in the lower 30s and upper 20s. However, when the wind gusts are factored in, it's feeling more like the low to mid 20s this morning.

Temperatures will be a little slow to warm this morning, as temperatures will only be in the mid 30s by 9:00 AM. Skies will still be overcast to mostly cloudy with a west-southwest wind of 10 miles per hour. 

Skies will remain overcast through the lunchtime hour across southern Illinois and western Kentucky. However, we could see some clearing in the west across southeastern Missouri. Temperatures will still be in the upper 30s, to near 40 with a southwest wind of 12 miles per hour. 

Highs this afternoon will be around 40. However, where we see clouds clear first, we may see temperatures get into the low 40s, and where cloud cover lingers longer, we may only see highs in the upper 30s. 

Conditions will remain dry this afternoon, and winds will be out of the west-southwest at 10 to 15 miles per hour. 

This evening, we are tracking skies that will continue to clear. Temperatures will be in the mid 30s with a south-southwest wind of 5 to 10 miles per hour. 

Tomorrow morning will likely start very similar to today with lows still running in the low 30s and upper 20s. Skies will be mostly sunny to start. 

Highs tomorrow will likely get into the upper 40s to near 50 for some of us. We will gradually see clouds build in through the afternoon and evening, and these clouds are associated with our next system. 

This system will bring widespread rain for the day on Friday. We could see a switch over to snow or a wintery mix, much like we saw yesterday evening. No substantial accumulations are expected at this time. However, this system will usher in very cold artic air for the weekend and start to the work week.Â
