BENTON, Ill. -- The Franklin County Sheriff's Office welcomes a new K9 officer.

The Franklin County Sheriff Kyle Bacon said their office brought in a new K9 officer on September 6, 2024. The new K9 officer is Stryker, a two-year-old German Shepard.

Sheriff Bacon said Stryker will join the K9 team of Vader and Riot there at the sheriff's office.

The training, equipment and Stryker are paid by funds from the National Opioid Abatement Settlement, Sheriff Bacon said.

Sheriff Bacon also stated the funds from the settlement have been used in the Franklin County Jail, along with other community related programs, to help with treatment in relation to addiction.

K9 Stryker and his handler, Deputy Terry Flood, are now in an intensive 160-hour training course at Vohne Liche Kennels in Denver, Indiana.
