CLINTON, Ky. (WSIL) -- Kentucky State Police (KSP) are investigating a deadly single-vehicle crash involving the 1st Circuit Commonwealth's Attorney, Mike Stacy.
According to KSP, the crash occurred near the 3000 block of US-51 in Clinton in Hickman County. State police said Mike Stacy, 68, was driving a 2018 Infiniti Q50 northbound when it veered off the road and hit a tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Michael "Bo" Stacy II, 30, a passenger in the vehicle, was airlifted to an out-of-state hospital and is in stable condition. State police said both occupants had their seat belts on.
The Hickman County Sheriff's Office, Hickman County EMS, Hickman County Fire-Rescue, Hickman County Emergency Management and AirEvac assisted KSP at the scene.
Attorney General Russell Coleman issued the following statement on the passing of Commonwealth's Attorney Michael Stacy of the 1st Judicial Circuit (Ballard, Carlisle, Fulton and Hickman Counties):
"Mike Stacy is exactly who you wanted in a courtroom standing up for Kentuckians. As a prosecutor, he was tough, but fair. And as a public servant, he earned the respect of his colleagues and the families he served.
"Mike’s fellow Commonwealth’s Attorneys elected him to lead their statewide association, and he had the rare distinction of receiving the top awards for both County and Commonwealth’s Attorneys during his many years of service to the River Counties.
"I had the privilege to work with Mike throughout the years, and I’m devastated by his sudden loss in a motor vehicle accident today. We are praying for his son and our fellow colleague, Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Beau Stacy, who was also involved in the accident. Our sincere condolences are with the Stacy family during this tragic time."
