PADUHAH, KENTUCKY (WSIL) -- Authorities are trying to figure out what caused a nine-vehicle crash on I-24, killing a four-year-old girl and injuring 12 other people.
Authorities say eight passenger vehicles and a tractor-trailer truck were involved in the incident just before 10 a.m. on Sunday, June 27, 2021.
Of those wounded, 11 people were taken to local hospitals for treatment; one was flown to an out-of-state hospital.
The Paducah Police Department’s Collision Reconstruction Team and Detective Chelsee Breakfield are investigating.
As of 3:40 p.m. all westbound lanes are still closed from exit 3 to the Ohio River Bridge into Illinois.
Passenger vehicles may detour via the U.S. 45 Ohio River “Brookport� Bridge.  However, no SEMI trucks are allowed on the Brookport Bridge due to an 8 ft. Vehicle width restriction, a 9 ft-6 inch height restriction and a 15 ton weight restriction.
SEMI truck traffic should consider a detour via U.S 60 West to the U.S. 51 Ohio River “Cairo� Birdge to connect to I-57.
