CAIRO, Ill. (WSIL) -- This prom season, one local organization is providing students with the resources to look and feel their best, at no cost.
Dr. Ryan Reed, Sr. PHD QMHP of Gro Community, spearheaded an effort to offer free haircuts to students at Cairo JR/Sr High School right on campus. This initiative is aimed to alleviate some of the financial and logistical pressures that come with prom preparations for both students and their families.
Beyond haircuts, Dr. Reed also provided students with access to extra tailored suits and ties and even taught them how to tie their own ties. He emphasized that the overarching goal is to support these young adults as they prepare for the next chapter of their lives.
"Life after high school is a big major transition. And to have somebody that can come and talk to you about those transitions is real," said Dr. Reed.
The students expressed deep appreciation for this act of kindness, recognizing the lasting impact it would have.
Cairo High School student Kymoni Dilworth shared, "It's a simple gesture, but like, the deeper meaning about it, you know, it's amazing. Somebody that we don't even know comes in, a little town like this, truly cares about us."
While it might have been an unconventional school day for some, the students benefited by looking and feeling their best for Saturday's prom and gaining valuable life skills in the process.
