HERRIN (WSIL) -- The longtime owner of Nesler's Polar Whip has died.

Herrin business owner Ron Nesler died Tuesday morning due to complications with COVID, his family posted on Facebook. Nesler was a longtime Herrin High School and Herrin Junior High basketball coach as well.

The family asked you keep them in your thoughts and prayers. Melissa Patterson Nesler posted saying, "Here's an order. Love you Dad."

The business opened in 1931 and has been family owned for over 75 years.

One mother says he had a positive impact on her son, when he coached at Herrin Junior High.

"He always worked with him if he felt that he needed individual skills worked on. He gave him support. He shared the love of the game with Keaton. He admired Coach Nesler for him being a restaurant owner and still being able to show up to practices and the games. He showed Keaton a great work ethic," said Millie Smith.

Arrangements and further details are pending.
