ULLIN, Ill. (WSIL) -- A significant fire broke out late Monday night at the Americas Best Value Inn in Ullin.

The initial call came in around 9:40 p.m. Due to the fire's severity, 12 fire departments from three counties were dispatched, with approximately 65 firefighters on scene.

"We could see the smoke from several miles away. When we got here we knew it was going to be a bad fire just because of the condition the building was in," said Anthony Phelps, Captain of the Ullin Volunteer Fire department.

Firefighters worked through the night, bringing the fire under control by about 3 a.m. Tuesday. There have been no confirmed reports of injuries.

"Supposedly there was no electricity, no water, no gas to it, so that's why we called the Illinois State fire marshal to investigate," said Phelps.

Fire officials have declared the hotel a total loss due to substantial damage. The building's owner was reportedly staying in a nearby building but was not home during the incident.

As of Tuesday morning, fire personnel remained on-site for overhaul operations and further investigation. The state fire marshal arrived on the scene at around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
