CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL) -- A man is behind bars and faces several charges - including attempted murder for a shooting in Carbondale, Illinois.

Detectives say Blake Morrison was arrested Friday for a shooting on July 29, 2023 in the 700 block of East Grand Avenue. They say an individual was shot by a suspect who was not immediately identified or located. The victim was hospitalized and survived the injuries.

In the course of the investigation, detectives identified Blake D. Morrison, 18 years old of Du Quoin, IL as the shooting suspect. With assistance from the Jackson County State’s Attorney, an arrest warrant was obtained for Morrison, charging him with Attempted Murder, Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, and Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm.

In addition, a warrant for Chloe A. McGrew, 19 years old of Du Quoin, IL was also obtained, charging her with Aiding or Concealing a Fugitive.

On November 17, 2023, Carbondale Police detectives coordinated with the Illinois State Police, Du Quoin Police Department, and the Perry County Sherriff’s Office and arrested Morrison and McGrew in Du Quoin without incident on the warrants.

The investigation revealed the suspects and victim are acquaintances and this was not a random act of violence. They were incarcerated in the Perry County Jail and will eventually be extradited to the Jackson County Jail. The investigation is active and ongoing.
