MARION, IL (WSIL) -- More murals are dressing up walls in Marion with two artists working on projects downtown near the Square Sunday afternoon.

It's a part of a public art project organized through a collaboration between artists, local businesses and the city.

Marion native Shawn Vincelette was putting finishing touches on his third mural project in town. He now lives in Atlanta and says it is an opportunity to come back and help beautify his hometown.

The piece he was working to finish is called "End of Shift," and is located on the corner of the Square and North Market Streets. The mural depicts a group of miners heading out a tunnel.

Vincelette says it is a homage to the generations of southern Illinois coal miners, adding that public art gives each viewer a chance to appreciate it in their own way.

"As an artist I know what it represents," he explains. "But, each person sharing what they see, they're sharing something that I didn't even know was part of my creation so, I think that is something unique with these public art installations."

Across the square from Vincelette, an artist from Austin, Texas was working with spray cans bringing to life a musical mural on the side of John Brown's On the Square.

At this time, several more murals are in the works for Marion
