CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- A new hotel has opened in Cape Girardeau which is now taking reservations.
Rockwood Inn is a new three-story boutique hotel, offering seven rooms in a 6,000 square-foot building which was built in 1921. The hotel will be able to host up to 22 guests each night and offer rental space for meetings and gatherings.
The new hotel is located across from the SEMO's University Center on Henderson Avenue in the former Himmelberger House, which was built by Harry Himmelberger.
Ben and Madawn Traxel purchased the property from the university. They said their vision was to help preserve the rich history of the home but also make lodging availability for visitors and residents of the city.
“We are thrilled to be open for bookings and look forward to sharing with our guests all the love and hard work we’ve put into the hotel - all while keeping special pieces of history alive and on display, said Madawn. “We look forward to hosting guests from near and far, and sending them home with a little piece of Cape Girardeau.
An open house is scheduled for August 16,17 and 18 from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.
