CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- A new public safety director has been announced for the Southeast Missouri State University Department of Public Safety.
Richard D. Flotron III, Ed.D. has been announced as the new Southeast Missouri State University Director of Public Safety. This will go into effect on August 1, 2024.
Flotrol was announced as the new director on July 23, after he was selected from multiple qualified candidates after a comprehensive national search, SEMO University stated.
Currently, Flotron is the deputy sheriff at the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office in Hillsboro, Missouri.
“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Flotron to the University community,� said Dr. Carlos Vargas, SEMO President. “His extensive experience in public safety, law enforcement training, and academic leadership will be invaluable as we continue to enhance the safety and well-being of our campus community.�
Flotron has two decades of law enforcement and public safety experience and has served in various leadership roles in the public safety industry. He also served as the Mineral Area College executive director and associate dean of students.
“I am very excited for the opportunity to come home to my alma mater,� said Flotron. “I look forward to working with the entire SEMO community, especially our students.�
Flotron holds an Ed.D. in higher education leadership from Missouri Baptist University, an M.S. in criminal justice administration from Lindenwood University, and a B.S. in clinical psychology from Southeast Missouri State University. His academic and professional background positions him well to lead the Department of Public Safety at SEMO.
