One dead after pedestrian crash, vehicle leaves scene, police report

BERTRAND, Mo. (WSIL) -- One person is dead after an unknown vehicle struck a pedestrian in the roadway and fled the scene, police reported on Sunday.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the incident happened on April 13, at 7:57 p.m. along I-57 in the northbound lanes at around the 2.2 mile marker.

State police said an unknown vehicle struck a pedestrian in the roadway and then the vehicle left the scene going northbound. Authorities did not give any vehicle description or any description of the driver, according to a crash report.

A 46-year-old man from Oshkosh, Wisconsin, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Mississippi County Coroner.

This was reported as the 19th death related to a traffic crash in the southeast Missouri area for 2025.
