...HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT /8 PM EDT/
FRIDAY...

* WHAT...Heat index values between 100 and 106.

* WHERE...All of southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, western
Kentucky, and southeast Missouri.

* WHEN...Until 7 PM CDT /8 PM EDT/ Friday.

* IMPACTS...Prolonged exposure to hot temperatures and high
humidity may cause heat illnesses.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The first prolonged stretch of heat and
humidity of the season will amplify health impacts. Health
impacts will build with each successive day in the heat and
humidity.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out
of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early
morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat
exhaustion and heat stroke.

Mostly dry to end the week, rain returns this weekend

CARTERVILLE (WSIL) -- Scattered showers are moving through the region this afternoon. While no severe weather is expected, a few rumbles of thunder and lightning are possible. Rain will linger into the evening and overnight, before clearing early Friday morning.

Friday will be a mostly dry day, with mild temperatures. Highs will stay below average, climbing into the mid to upper 60s.

Our next storm system arrives Saturday. A cold front will move through bringing back a few scattered showers. However, it won't be a washout, there should still be plenty of dry time.

An isolated shower or two could linger into Sunday, but Sunday will be the drier of the two days. Cooler air will settle in behind the system, dropping highs back into the low 60s Sunday and Monday.
