CHAFFEE, Mo. (WSIL) -- Multiple fire departments battled a house fire in southeast Missouri over the weekend.

The Chaffee Fire Department stated the fire took place in the 100-block of School Street on October 5 around 7 p.m.
Firefighters in Chaffee found heavy smoke showing as they got to the scene. Other area fire department then started to respond to the scene as well to assist.
The Chaffee Fire Department stated the home had extreme hoarder conditions which made attacking the fire more difficult.
At one point, fire made it's way through the roof of the home, firefighters reported.

Firefighters were able to save multiple pets and returned them to their owners.

The fire department thanked all the community members which came out to assist with water and other items. They also thanked all the area fire departments who came by to help as well.
Assisting the Chaffee Fire Department with fighting the fire was the North Scott County Ambulance, Chaffee Police, Scott County Sheriff's Office, Scott City Fire, Delta Fire, Oran Fire, Scott County Rural and the City of Cape Girardeau Fire Department.
