Multiple groups hold protest questioning the presidential race

CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL) -- A protest took place in Carbondale Wednesday night.

Organizers said they want to shed light on the presidential race and the direction of our country.

The protest, called the Big Muddy Monster Emergency Protest for Democracy plus Liberation, took place at the Town Square Pavilion, where several groups demonstrating against the presidential race.

One of the organizers from the Democratic Socialist of America said that her group believes that for democracy to be real it has to be seen in the nation's economy. They feel, if people don't have jobs or are in debt, then her organization's perspective is lost.

"I think to past it, it actually means recognizing the inequalities and the power structure, so we have to recognize that what is happening is that a small minority is getting richer and richer," said Jyotsna Kapur, one of the group organizers'.

The Democratic Socialist of America said they will continue trying to balance the gap by helping organizations who need them.

Members of the protest marched or caravanned to the federal building because it is a representation of the federal government.
