WSIL —Â� Heavy rains and flooding not only threaten neighborhoods but are also causing major issues for farmers here and nationwide.Â
Wednesday June 5th marks an important date for many farmers across Illinois, it is the final date to plant in order to receive full coverage for crop insurance. On average farmers in Illinois typically have 98 percent of their corn planted by this date but as of June 2nd only 45 percent had been planted. Randy Anderson, a Farmer in Galatia says he only got two thirds of his corn planted this year.
Normally, nationwide the average amount of corn planted is 96 percent by now but only 67 percent has been planted. This year’s rains have led many farmers to take their frustrations to social media using the hash tag "no plant 19" with pictures of the challenges they’re facing. Â
