PADUCAH, KY (WSIL) -- A Paducah man was arrested for illegally buying a handgun.
The Sheriff's Office says they were called to the area of Albany Street on Tuesday, January 16 around 1:15 p.m. Someone had called them about shots being fired.
Deputies say they found 21-year-old Nash G. McMillen when they arrived on scene. They say he was target practicing in his backyard with a gun he had just bought. They say he was shooting into a book at a downward angle.
Deputies say they were familiar with McMillen from an encounter they had with him in August 2022. At that time they say he had trespassed at a McCracken County School. They hadn't had any other contact with him since.
Upon further investigation on Wednesday, January 17, deputies determined McMillen had bought the gun he was using illegally at a local business. He had a prior arrest for domestic violence, which makes it illegal for him to buy a gun.
He was arrested and charged with Fraudulent Firearm Transaction, a Class D felony. The handgun and other evidence was seized for forensic examination.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the McCracken County School police in this investigation.
