...Scattered Thunderstorms with Gusty Winds and Torrential
Downpours...

At 3:35 PM CDT, National Weather Service Doppler radar was
tracking scattered thunderstorms the Evansville Tri-State area
into southern Illinois and far western and northwestern Kentucky.
These storms are producing torrential downpours, gusty winds up
to 40 mph, and frequent lightning strikes. If outdoors, seek
shelter in a sturdy structure if you hear thunder or see a flash
of lightning. Localized street flooding is also possible from
these thunderstorms.

...HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT /8 PM EDT/
FRIDAY...

* WHAT...Daily heat index values of 100 to 107.

* WHERE...Portions of southern Illinois, southwest Indiana,
western Kentucky, and southeast Missouri.

* WHEN...Until 7 PM CDT /8 PM EDT/ Friday.

* IMPACTS...Prolonged exposure to hot temperatures and high
humidity may cause heat illnesses.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The first prolonged stretch of heat and
humidity of the season will amplify health impacts. Health
impacts will build with each successive day in the heat and
humidity.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out
of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early
morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat
exhaustion and heat stroke.

April Election: We break down the results and look at the low turnout

(WSIL) -- Did you vote on Tuesday? News 3 took a closer look at the numbers and it appears the answer for many people is NO, they didn't vote.

The consolidated election had many races, but in many counties very few of them were contested. According to many people who commented on our social media pages, some voters didn't have confidence in the election process, so they didn't turn out to vote.

In Union County for example, only 800 voters cast ballots, which is around 6 percent of those registered. Across the entire county there were only three contested races.

Turnout was also low in Perry County, with less than 5 percent of registered voters casting ballots. According to unofficial numbers, that's the lowest in all of southern Illinois.

While many counties saw low turnout, some local counties bucked the trend and had a nice showing of voters.

In Hamilton County, nearly 31 percent of registered voters cast ballots. That far exceeds other southern Illinois communities. More than half the ballots cast there were in Rosiclare, where there were contested races for mayor and city commissioner. Voters also voted to ban the sale of alcohol in the city.
