EVENING...

* WHAT...Peak heat index values up to near 105.

* WHERE...All of southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, western
Kentucky, and southeast Missouri.

* WHEN...Until 7 PM CDT /8 PM EDT/ this evening.

* IMPACTS...Prolonged hot temperatures and high humidity may cause
heat illnesses.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke.

Murphysboro Mayor sworn into third term

Murphysboro wants in on Home Town Takeover

MURPHYSBORO (WSIL) -- Murphysboro Mayor Will Stephens was sworn into his third term Tuesday night.

He tells News 3 he's thankful for the opportunity and ready to get started on new projects.

Mayor Stephens says his main focus now is to spend the next four years cleaning up the Brown Shoe Factory property and he wants to build a new city hall, police and fire department.

"I think we can save some money and be more efficient if we got everybody under one roof. The police and fire departments were built in the 1950s and are really outdated. So I'm looking forward to focusing on those two things," he said.

Mayor Stephens also tells News 3 the new Holiday Inn Express is set to open Friday, May 14th.
