Poshard march

(WSIL) -- Monday marked the first of dozens marches planned over the next few weeks across Southern Illinois.

Former congressman Glenn Poshard held a silent march at the Jackson County Courthouse and one at the Williamson County Courthouse Monday afternoon.

He led roughly two dozen people on multiple laps around the courthouse and finished by reciting Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address.

Poshard says the marches are not political rallies, he sees them as rallies for peace and unity.

"Lets stand for justice. Lets stand for mercy. Lets stand for humility. Don't deride each other and be angry with each other," said Poshard.

Poshard is holding a march Tuesday morning at the Alexander County Courthouse at 11a.m.
