(WSIL) -- The reporter who dug deep into the history of Anna last year is reflecting on a recent Black Lives Matter rally in the Union County community.

Pro-Publica reporter Logan Jaffe spent part of 2019 in the town exploring Anna's past and looking at how the town has evolved.

She wrote the "The Legend of A-N-N-A: Revisiting a town where black people weren't welcome after dark."

The story comes to the conclusion that most locals now are ready to rid the town of its sundown history and move on.

News 3 caught up with Jaffe who was surprised to learn about the Black Lives Matter Rally that took place in Anna on where more than 100 people took part.

However, she says the social justice movement is spreading across the southern Illinois.

"What we're seeing is not just one core group in one particular town," she explains. "It is really kind of organic and there's a large group of young adults kind of going to different towns and gathering people who maybe have never protested before or organized before in their lives."

Jaffe adds that she'll be watching what happens next closely as communities across the country work to make change.
