CARBONDALE â€ We are now less than aÌýweek away from the start of the college football season.Ìý SIU will pay a visit to nationally ranked Southeast Missouri State next Thursday night as the two regional rivals will resume the War for the Wheel.

This Thursday night though was about the Salukis and their fans asÌýSIU hosted its annual Fan Fest.

The rain earlier in the day led to some of the events being held under cover, but the weather cleared in plenty of time for activities on the field.

It was difficult to tell whether the kids, or the big kids in Saluki jerseys, had more fun.

"It means a lot," said senior running back DJ Davis.Ìý "It kinda brings that family atmosphere to the field, and we love that. ÌýWe have practice earlier in the day, meetings, so it’s kinda fun to come out here and have fun with the kids."

When asked who wasÌýhaving more fun, the little kids or the big kids in the Saluki jerseys, Davis did not hesitate.

"(laughs) It might be the big kids honestly. ÌýWe’re out here drenched up having fun. ÌýI think we got ’em beat this year."

After the fun evening with the fans, it’s back to game prep for the opener.

The Dawgs and Redhawks will battle next Thursday night in Cape Girardeau.
