CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- SIU's president now has the authority to issue potential refunds to students.
During a special meeting on Monday, the board of trustees gave Daniel Mahony the authority to reimburse students for some costs, as all instruction has moved online due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
The board did not specify how the reimbursements should be handled. However, it gave Mahony the flexibility to make that determination in consultation with chancellors of the Carbondale and Edwardsville campuses and the dean of the school of medicine.
Officials tell News 3, the move was made to be able to act more quickly if the decision to issue refunds is made. Those refunds could cost the university up to 5 million dollars.
