CARTERVILLE (WSIL) –ÌýWhen one season ends another begins. We’ve traded in our pads and helmets, swamped out for tank tops and hightops.

Hope you brought your jump shot. Time to scorch the nets with our first basketball version of Sports Extra of the season..

We started off in Carbondale. Terriers tookÌýon Mount Vernon.Ìý

Coach Jim Miller drew things up early and his Terriers respond in a big way. They opened the game on a 9-0 run. Farleigh Ward caps things off, he had aÌýgame high 19 points.

But Mount Vernon is too good to go away quietly. Jackson Creel hit some big shots for the Rams, and had a team high 14 points.

Later second quarter, the Macklin twins came up with a couple big baskets for Carbondale. Tavaris got a sky hook to fall, then it was his brother’s turn. Davaris found his spot on the floor and hit a big three.

Mount Vernon would get as close as two when Quani Rudd fired up the Mount Vernon fans with an athletic dunk.

But Clayton Greer wentÌýon his own five-nothing run to end the first half. Greer chipped in with 16 points.ÌýTerriers roll past Mount Vernon 54-39.

Over at Marrion, the wildcats took on Cahokia. This one was all Wildcats.Ìý

Jackson Connor dominated and had a game high 27 points. Frankie Horner came up with some big shots, contributed with 12 points and Rayzhaun Bardo chipped in with 8 points. Marion glides to a 66-45 win over conference rival Cahokia.

Over at the Goreville Invitational Tournament,ÌýGoreville lit up the scoreboard in a 90-61 victory over Hamilton County.ÌýNick Compton lead the way for the Blackcats with 25 points.Ìý

Benton cruises past Anna-Jonesboro 45-25.Ìý

Hardin County knocks off Johnston City 57-43.

Murphysboro crushes Lovejoy 66-49.

Chester holds off North Tech 67-60.

Cairo stymies Carmi-white County 57-41

Du Quoin upends Red Bud 61-46.

Close finish but Salem edges past West Frankfort 53-50.

Christopher throttles Carrier Mills-Stonefort 56-17.

Eldorado takes care of Gallatin County 56-38
