UTAH (WSIL) -- Strong winds blowing down the slopes of the mountains Tuesday knocked out power to more than 100,000 people and blew over 45 semis in Utah.
Gusts up to 99 miles per hour were reported in parts of the state with several counties placing restrictions on high profile vehicles.
The strong winds were the result of "downslope winds", a weather phenomenon that occurs when cold, dense air spills over the mountains and rapidly accelerates down the mountainside.
